| *Message was: A dealer that we have been seeing has let me take home a Nain carpet. He tells me the weaver is M Tavasoli, however, there is no signature. I have never heard of this weaver, whereas, I have seen many Habibians and Ali Akbar weaves. | The quality of the design and the colours is higher than the signed carpets (i.e. Habibian and Ali Akbar) that I have seen. The definition of the flowers in the center and tightness of the designs make the carpet stand out from others that I have seen. I have seen many Nains... The quality of the carpet is superfine. It is 10'x7'. Knots per square inch are approximately 800-850. I've looked at the threads at the end of the carpet, each thread unravels into three strands. Does this mean the LAA is 3 (is this possible as you say 4 is the lowest)? I've compared this with a much cheaper Nain that I have where each thread unravels into 12 threads (i.e. LAA of 12). The dealer is asking US$4,750. Is this too much for an unsigned piece? The next rug relates to a Saveh. The carpet is signed, not sure by who but it has an Iranian flag. The carpet is a 10' x 7'. It is a mother and child design. The quality of the wool can be felt by walking on it compared to other rugs. The KPSI is 600. It is apparently a royal design. I have never seen anything but tribal designs from Saveh. The dealer tells me that this one is special as they are very rare. He is asking for around US$5,400. This is a lot for a carpet that I've never heard of. Any recommendations? Thanks for your help. David *Follow Ups: |
