Golden Rules:

  • Do not Panic! ... Happens!, but be fast.
Do not wait till the last guest has left the house and then start cleaning your rug or carpet!
" Your carpet is your investment!"

  • Time is an essence! Be Quick!
The majority of stain can be removed out of your rug or carpet right after things happen. So be Quick!

  • Grab White Paper Towel or White Towel.
Do not use a colored Paper Towel or napkin to remove a liquid stain! Sometimes the color passes through the towel to your carpet!

  • IF you have a spoon use it to scoop off the liquid out of carpet.
If there is a lot of liquid or semi-solid(Jell-O,...) stuff use a spoon and try to remove as much as possible but do not press down on the carpet!

  • Do not! Do not use knifes or cutlery to remove anything out of your carpet.
You can not believe how many times people have cut their carpet contents, not including their fingers when they tried to remove stains or spills out of their rug or carpet!

  • Never scrub or brush any stain out of your carpet.
You will make it worst! Sometimes you might damage the structure of carpet!

  • If You have spot removal test it before TRYING it!
We do not believe that you need to use commercial spot removals, but if you want to use it be cautious! (READ THE LABEL!!)

Please be cautious and use your judgment! Test the Spot removal in a very small section before applying it to a large area! Sometimes they remove colors out of your carpet.

  • Be Warned! Some of over the counter Spot removals are very strong and may remove the color out of your rugs or carpets.

Now You are ready and You can start cleaning!

  • Professional cleaning: If you live in area that you do have access to Oriental Rug dealers let them wash your rug. They should charge you anywhere from $1-$2 per Square feet for it.

OK! You Want to wash it Yourself:
Before deciding to do this yourself, be prepared to think about the consequences. Despite all the precautions, due to various nature of dyes used and wool, you might end up damaging your rug, if you still want to do it your self, here are the steps that you should follow.

Step one:

  1. You have to prepare your rug for wash.

  2. If you have pure silk rug DO NOT wash it yourself! Let's professional rug dealers do the cleaning!

  3. You are going to destroy it.

  4. If you have wool rug that has just a little silk on it then you are OK!

Step Two:
  1. Vacuum your rug up, down front side and backside. Be careful with fringes! If your rug has long fringe, put them under the rug when you are vacuuming the top pile and vise versa. If the fringes get stuck in the vacuum DO NOT, DO NOT pull them by force. Just turn off the Vacuum Cleaner immediately and remove the fringe one by one.

  2. Put the rug in an area where you can do some dusting, may be in a vertical position outside the house. Using a broom handle or a wood stick, Start beating the rug gently to remove deep dust in the rug's pile. (Make sure you do this in an open space. There will be lots of dust.)

  3. After removing all of the dust and dirt, you should vacuum again. (Step one)

  4. Lay your rug down on yard or on solid ground (clean concrete floor i.e. garage or clean driveway) not on the dirt road.

  5. Test your rug for color bleeding, before you wet your rug use. Just apply water and liquid shampoo in small portion of the rug; use soft brush, if you see the colors are getting mixed on your rug (Color bleeding)! STOP! Let the professionals clean your rug. If there is no color bleeding and rug looks normal go to the next step.

  6. Use only"cold water" to wet the top of your rug. Actually if your rug is not deeply dirty, you do not need to soak your rug with water.

  7. Use "natural soap"if you can not find one use very mild vegetable shampoo or baby shampoo . (Do not use Strong Chemical Spot removers).

  8. Do not over due soaping, Just use soft brush and wash your rug with soap and water. Repeat the cold wash and fresh shampoo as needed.

  9. Wash your rug thoroughly with fresh cold water. Using a squeezer try to get as much water out as possible. This could be done by using the hard side of a long brush.

  10. Lay your rug flat to dry. When the top pile feels dry turn your rug over and let's back dry.

  11. Make sure your rug is completely dry before you use it again.

  12. Do not keep your rug for longer than 2 days under straight light. Straight sunlight is going to fade your rug's color.
ATTENTION!

Removing Wax
Put a blotter or brown paper bag over the spot. Put hot iron over the blotter. Wait a few minutes until the wax is absorbed into the blotter. Repeat if necessary. Move the iron constantly and do not let it stay in one place.

Removing Ink
Saturate the spot with hair spray. Allow it to dry. Brush lightly with a solution of water and vinegar.

Removing Glue
Saturate the spot with a cloth soaked in vinegar or alcohol.

Removing Chewing Gum
Press ice cubes against spot. Wait until it becomes brittle and breaks off. Use spot remover to vanish last traces of the spot.
